about

Mood Series #96 has landed and we are very excited to share this excellent EP with you. Budapest's Mark Bokay may not be a household name yet in the scene but make no mistake, he is a veteran of producing quality dub techno. As one half of the duo Deto & Gleam and solo, he has released music as far back as 20 years ago. 'The Melancholy Of Resonance' is a perfect title for this album as it balances tech with a seasoned and tempered amount of melody and atmosphere. And it is derived from the title of a novel by the Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai (The Melancholy of Resistance). 'Flow Line' is a splending way to begin the release. The distance that is created by Mark really draws you in deep. 'Quiescent (Base)' is quintessential M series styled dub techno. We almost get a M7 remix vibes with the faint electrical storm deep in the cut. The ominous melody is icing on the cake as the track builds beautifully into infinity. The title track is the heaviest and possibly biggest club track featured here. The beat here just plain crushes. Think about the times outside a warehouse rave in the 90s when all you could hear was that wall shaking bass. This is that. Lastly, Quiescent (Version) revisits the original but this one feels a bit more dissonant and minimal. A great alternate version to balance out the previous. The music intended to be a soundtrack for an autumn walk in the forest before dusk. A trip which evokes old memories and feelings attached to them, which describes melancholy in his opinion. What is his inspiration? It really just comes from being a fan of the music. He spends a good amount of time listening to others and taking in their approach to the genre. But more than anything else, he just loves the style of the dub techno, drone and ambient genres. I think we can all agree, that's the best inspiration to have. Other people's music. We are thankful to Mark Bokay for letting the Mood Series be a platform for his wonderful music. Expect more music in the future from him as he just recently went solo. If this is any sign of what's to come, then be on the lookout! If you had to share one Mood Series to someone who had no clue what dub techno was. You wouldn't blame anyone for sharing with them 'The Melancholy Of Resonance'. It is prime time classic dub techno.
