Ajnkana is becoming one of our standout regular label contributors on Greyscale. 'Unnamed Airport' is the 4th project released on the label and each one solidifies Ajnkana as a standout producer of atmospheric and 'take you there' themed dub techno. As the name suggests, this supports the atmosphere, architecture and emotions involved with an airport. To be exact, a new standout and landmark futuristic airport of a successful burgeoning new city. Arrival opens with an ambient intro that really sets the background with which Ajnkana says 'I have long been a fan of Brian Eno's Music for Airports... The airport as metaphysic is sort of a not-place though also certainly the law still applies there throughout.' There is a calmness in the track of people moving about but there is also a slight anticipation of people getting to their destination. Pacing is very key for each composition to expand on the notion of time and space throughout. Percussion elements seem to resemble the tick of clocks adding to the metronome and rhythm of time. There is a bit of mystery left with these expressions. Certainly, an unknown feeling of anticipation in any airplane trek is embodied in 'Embarcation' as things get a bit more serious in the sounds. 'Departure' then takes off so to speak on all of emotions feeling like the only conclusion. A seminal recording in dub techno and reminiscent of the type of feelings harnessed also in Black Dog's 2010 album 'Music for Real Airports'. 'Unnamed Airport' is equally a great dub techno and amazing listening album.
