about

Greyscale continues to search the lands for the best and brightest producers of deep techno. Mood Series #67 is another great example at techno pushing some boundaries. Philipp Priebe runs his label Stólar, out of the what most claim to be the mecca of techno, Berlin. Born and raised in a small town in Saxony and musically educated in the city of Greifswald at the Baltic Sea, Philipp Priebe get his main inspiration from nature, just like the most famous son of the City - Caspar David Friedrich. 'Everlasting' is naturally influenced by the sea. The power of the waves and strong current flow like energy through his music. The serene and peacefulness have the ability to soothe the soul and calm the spirit. It's that kind of emotion that Philipp gets from his inspiration. 'Asphalt' thrives in a restless upbeat world which is balanced by beautiful tones of atmosphere and percussion. "To merge beauty and melancholy in music is always the aim of my productions" Says Philipp. To a top-class quality, we might add too. 'Port' is another example at a successful track where the heavy beat is balanced by superbly eerie and alluring, wistful melody. How something can punish this hard but still soothes the soul is really a game changer for the genre. Philipp excels at balancing both. The title track 'Everlasting' followed by the finale of 'Aura I', symbolize the passing of a storm in the sea. Where nature returns to a more peaceful and calm temperament. Still, how the beats evolve is nothing short of pure genius. 'Aura I' ends the EP on a swan song. The most dubby of the lot. Still, a tranquil lullaby permeates the groove. Poignant and melancholy, it rides into the sunset. Philipp Priebe is certainly one to keep an eye out for if this is any sign of what he can do.
This is one of the best deep techno EP's we have released on Greyscale yet!
